Positive Forces
Snow is once again a blanket of white on this town and forest, so I especially appreciate the kitchen windowsil covered with potted herbs and bright lemons and tomatoes.
I was feeling a little sick the past few days and was glad to discover the Alan Titchmarsh gardening show, which kept me thoroughly entertained and dreaming of springtime and my own small garden. He makes everything look so easy. Watching the plants thrive and grow on that show made the snow outside seem quite out of place. But I know that it won't be too long now.
I also watched a few episodes of the fabulous, adorable Jamie Oliver's 'At Home,' and find his passion and enthusiasm for everything he does so incredibly infectious.
I feel more and more that what we read and watch effects us, and I am feeling drawn to positive, funny, inspiring books, movies, and television shows. My mother in law loves reading children's books, and I think she might be onto something. I think it might keep your brain and your spirit young and optimistic.
So I am welcoming positive forces and people into my life now, and looking for creative ways to fill the remaining winter days.

Hello, dear Dawn!
ReplyDeleteJamie at Home, season two, is broadcast here too and I'm going to order the DVDs one of these days. My son and I love the first series and we often watch Jamie together.
You're so right: positive, inspiring books, films etc are so good for the soul!
Take Care!
PS. I don't have your new address. Can you please e-mail it?
I love that anticipation of spring and the garden in the dead quiet of winter! I is good to have something to long for. I think it is great that you are really focusing on positive things for yourself.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to know that there are other people besides myself who like to read children's books! I even like select children's movies! (I love most of the movies by Miyazaki, his illustration and colors are amazing!)
Hope you have a beautiful day.
xoxo
p.s. I love your new blog banner!
lovely notes about today and i adore the sunshine and brightness in your home
ReplyDeleteDawn, you are so right about positive influences!! This is a great post!
ReplyDeleteI'd dive into any one of those books on your table.
Have you read any of Lucy M. Boston's (children's) books? They are wonderful!

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what you said about positive forces; this year, I am dedicated to surround myself with positive things as well. I truly think our environment wholly affects our overall disposition.

ReplyDeleteLoved the post, sweet Dawn, and wishing you creative inspiration at this beginning of the new year!! Sending you a big hug, Sherry xx
ReplyDeleteSweet as can be those two darlings of yours. They must be great friends now. Something as simple as a stack of books or a tray of lemons and tomatoes always look so beautiful when you photograph them.
ReplyDeleteHoping all your dreams come true this year and your creativity continues to flourish. Hugs xxoo
I share many of your same thoughts and feelings; have you ever read anything by Sonia Choquette? She is very positive, energy focused, and dream-driven; you may enjoy her!! I love the photographs---let's anticipate Spring together but use this wonderfully 'quiet' time for positive reflection and joy! xx Joann
ReplyDeleteI think your mother in law IS onto something! Every other year or so I re-read Jane of Lantern Hill and Anne of Green Gables. I'm always surprised how much pleasure they give me and how uplifted I am when I finish.
ReplyDeleteI agree about children's books completely. As a teacher (although not actually teaching at present) I often find myself drawn to them still in bookshops and can't help but read through. At the moment I am spending time listening to audio books and it is a lovely accompaniment to time spent in front of the fire.
ReplyDeleteAlso love your pig chopping board!
xx
Your positive forces are wonderful, Dawn, and I so agree about the importance of surrounding ourselves with them. And, yes, children's books are some of the best!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I consider your blog itself a positive force and I appreciate your sharing it with us.
