Anticipating Autumn
It happens every August (actually if I'm honest, every June, but I am too shy to post about it at the beginning of summer): I begin fantasizing about the arrival of my favorite season, Autumn.
These photographs were taken last fall. I can't wait to get my camera out this year when the leaves start changing and the mist settles in over these little villages, farms, and wooded hills.
The first Autumn-themed magazines are popping up on the racks, getting me so excited and filled with anticipation.
Frost on fallen leaves, my breath puffing out in white clouds on early morning walks, baking apple pies and molasses cookies, blue fragrant smoke seeping out of chimneys, wearing sweaters and boots, walking down damp forest trails with Rafael in his carrier and the dogs examining the leaf piles and wood stacks, stooping down to pick up acorns and pinecones, and the melancholy caws of crows on foggy days. All things I am looking forward to.
What are your favorite things about fall?

I absolutely agree with you and feel the same anticipation. I unfortunately do not have the same woodsy areas near me and not nearly the amount of Autumn color, ( i'm in San Diego) but I dream of visiting places like that.... Love your photos Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors and the cool air. One time I collected gorgeous leaves of brilliant fall color, sprayed them with clear acrylic and mailed them to my parents in Southern California (I live in Oregon). My mom used them on her Thanksgiving table as decor and said they lasted forever!
ReplyDeleteI love your new blogger header. So eloquent.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately we dont get to experience Autumn as this, in India. But I can look at your photos and dream...
I just adore the new look here, the header, the big teasing photos, love it and love fall!!! I was ready in June too!
ReplyDeleteoooh, i am so excited too! your pictures take me to your neighborhood and are always so breathtaking! THANK You for the beautiful pics as it gets me giddy with excitement to say goodbye to this heat and hello to the outdoors every day! :) i love pumpkins, apple cider donuts from our local apple farm with warm apple cider. i also love the anticipation of decorating for Christmas and being able to finally take the dogs for hikes in the woods without worrying about ticks!! :) But mostly, i'm excited because fall means we get to welcome our newest family members....something we have been waiting for, for a long...long....time. :) xo ><>
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that is HUGE NEWS! I must catch up with you!!
DeleteLove the new seasonal blog header! :)
ReplyDeleteI have been day dreaming about fall a lot lately and in fact, the weather here in Illinois has been very fall-like the past couple days. I am secretly and slowly grooving into the mindset; I get this way too every end of summer. I would have to say my favorite things are the smells - crisp air, the foliage, the warm spice scents. And then, of course the sights. Fall is my most favorite time of year to be outdoors. And fall decorating is starting to invade my thoughts in a joyful way!
Hugs,
Lara

Me again, I've got to ask, how did you change your blog to this wonderful layout? I'm wanting a more simple change and I love what you've done here, care to share your secret with me? Please!! lol
ReplyDeleteSure Sue!
DeleteI have the layout called 'Simple' and a width of 820 px. I size my photographs to have 590 width, which means I can post them as 'original size.'
Hope that helps! Thanks for the compliment!
The smell of the air. I also love smelling snow on the way. But when the air is crisp, and you can smell woodsmoke from over there, and dirt and leaves over here, I just love it!
ReplyDeleteThat and all of my fave fashions revolve around autumn. Cute books and scarves? Yes please!
I too LOVE fall, by far my favorite season. Those pictures are all so stunning, I especially love the one with your little town and the crows, wish my city looked like that ;). I'm sure fall is extra special for you now, with Rafael's birthday just around the corner.
ReplyDeleteThis particular autumn - the Autumn of 2012 - I am just hoping the temperatures will be cooler! We have had the hottest summer on record, and I have tired of the heat.:)

Hi Dawn I think we could have been separated at birth! I love all the things you love about fall! I to start feeling a real buzz in the middle of summer and if I happen to mention it I get greeted by lots of groans...lol. Also fave things are the evenings drawing in, the nip in the air, the smell of woodsmoke, the cooler crisper mornings, the spicy smells of cooking & candles and lots of things to look forward too!
ReplyDeleteI still (and its been many years ago since I left) get that back to school feeling, and the other day I brought my first two little fabric pumpkins for the season off Etsy, they are so cute!
Its not quite as beautiful here in England as it looks there but I have to say Dawn that over the last few years I can see our autumns getting better & better and more colourful, wether it is something to do with the crazy weather we are having I don't know...Anyway thank you for sharing & love your new Blog header. Love Nina xxxx
