Preparing for Boston's Arrival

Today I stocked up on all the things you need for a new puppy: kibbles, collar, harness, and lots of TOYS. I was so happy when the pillow I ordered on etsy arrived. It's upcycled from a t-shirt and I bought it at My T-Shirt Pillow .

So I set up Boston's little spot next to our bed and told Kiki, "These are for Boston." I left the room and when I came back, Kiki was on the bed with a guilty look on her face and the smallest of the toys.

Of course I played with her! I realized that there was no way of keeping the toys from her, and that actually, since she will be the 'boss' of the two dogs, all the toys will probably be 'hers' anyways.

I am so curious how it will be once Boston is here. I wonder how it will be for Kiki; if she will be upset, happy, or indifferent. Change always makes me nervous. But mostly, I am excited, and hopeful that this new member of the family will just bring more love and joy.

When we were done playing, I caught this lovely shot of a contemplative Kiki.

I love her so much, my heart just bursts sometimes. I am so blessed to have her in my life. We are together 24 hours a day, so close, and so connected. I hope this bond remains strong when Boston is here.

  1. i am so excited for you i can't even stand it. when we got ivy,our 2nd dog -- i didn't think i had the ability to love another dog as much as I loved eve, our 1st. i fall more and more in love with each of them for different reasons and they love each other too! It will bless you beyond believe and Boston is one lucky little lad!! :) Cheers to you all!!! xoxo

  2. Awwww, I want a puppy, too! Kiki is the cutest thing I have ever seen. She does look guilty on the bed! Can't wait to see Boston!

    BTW, love reading your blog!

  3. LOL, Can see you are in for so much fun. Kiki with the new toy, precious. Know how it is to love a dog that much and I can tell Kiki is a doll and sweetheart. Bet she is going to show Boston all around and have a grand time.

  4. ha! love the guilty look. precious and beautiful shots

  5. Such a sweet post...I love your relationship with Kiki...I really do...it is a beautiful thing. I'm sure it will be with Boston too xxx

  6. How exciting this must be for you! And I'm sure Kiki will warm up to Boston; they'll probably be two peas in a pod! :) ♥

  7. yay! so excited for your new puppy to arrive! kiki is the cutest thing ever, she makes me want to squeeeeeel! I have been with my girly like you are with your pups since she was 7 weeks old and she is now almost 9... but since our business is on the road, I have had to be away from her a lot which I HATE! I miss her so much when we are gone, I am thinking about getting her a service dog tag so she can come with us everywhere!!!

  8. What lovely pictures of Kiki...I can just see my Rusty doing the same thing with the toy..lol I'm sure Kiki will love her new brother!!

    xoxo Gert

  9. Oh my GOSH!! What a cutie pie! Can't blame her. She wants to be your baby forever ;)

Congrats on your newest addition!! So exciting!

PS I'm doing a giveaway to promote charity. Come check it out!

  10. Kiki is such a dear....I'm sure she will get along with Boston just swimmingly. But she will always be your little baby, just keep reminding her that :o)

  11. Kiki makes my heart melt. I so long for a sweet little love bug companion like Kiki one day. What a joy. And wow, so exciting to await the arrival of Boston. I'm sure they'll be the best of friends.

  12. i looooove this face!!!
    greetings from spain

  13. Congrats! It's going to be so wonderful having two pups. You'll find that there's more love in your heart than even you realized. Having two is such a pleasure because they make each other so happy.....and that brings even more joy to you! I can't wait to see the photos!

  14. Oh, the sweetness in your life! Adorable.

  15. Darling Dawn, not long now! The excitement and delight of a new puppy, how truly wonderful.I'm sure that Kiki will be fine, after the settling in bit - she'll probably ignore him at first. Also you may be surprised when he grows up, he may turn out to be the boss after all! Of my mum & dad's 3 dogs, it's the tiny Norfolk terrier who rules the roost (Jojo, the Kiki lookalike, is content to just 'be' and not try and take sides!!) Alice sends a special lick to her Austrian friend as she awaits her new brother and I send special love to you xox ps just a thought but my Mum always says that if you want a baby, get a puppy and one will follow! It worked for my youngest sister after she had a similar sad experience to you.So maybe an extra bonus xox Rachel

  16. Your pictures are so beautiful! It's a breath of fresh air. I bet Kiki will warm up to Boston in no time. What a cute couple they'll make!

  17. hi dawn and kiki...i told myself i have to visit dawn today and then i come here and see all of this happiness and love..i love the pillow btw...

kiki looks adorable..i know how much you love her cause that is how i felt about buddy...you know that nearly took me apart when he passed away....5 months ago yesterday...i talk to him everyday...his little ashes sits right behind me on the piano with a bouquet of fresh flowers at all times...i was so worried about getting teddy...should i do it..at times i thought maybe it was a mistake...no mistake about it..the BEST thing we ever did...i was worried that i would compare him to buddy..or maybe not even like him at all...well, it was love at first sight...i ADORE him so MUCH !!!

little Boston will fit right in...all they need is lots of love, snuggles and kisses....

i know you must be so excited...i remember the day we went to get teddy...i relive it in my mind daily...what a HAPPY day...
you have so much to look forward to...it is the BEST !!!!!!

    sending love, my friend
    kary and teddy

  18. She is so adorable, sure she's going to love her new little friend!

  19. Our little yorkie, Ruby, was about nine months old when we bought her 'brother', Frodo. At first she sulked, but by the evening, when they had played together, they became inseperable. They still fight over toys, though!
