When it's cold but not freezing...when it is damp with dew and mist....then we must watch every step we make in the woods, because it's what we call salamander weather, when they are out creeping over wet leaves and moss.
I love finding these shy, slow little creatures. There aren't many left, and they always seem so special, like a four leaf clover. I was very happy to capture that first photo, with the salamander's tiny smiling face. He could have clumsily crawled away, but instead, he stayed still, letting me take his picture.
Mushrooms are soggy with rain and most of the leaves are down, carpeting the paths. Rafael drinks warm milk with breakfast now, and we turn on all the heaters in the evenings for his bath time. The days are so short, and winter is just around the corner.
Happy November! Such an exciting month...
xoxoxo
Beautiful...
ReplyDeleteHappy November to you, too!
The month before Christmas!
A few weeks ago we had a salamander on our terrace, too. My boys were very excited :).
ReplyDeleteYour nature pics are wonderful as always.
Hugs, Nadine
Awesome photos!! Your autumn is more colorful than mine, I'd be in heaven....
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! The weather is cooler here, too. Our heat has been coming on for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI adore that top photo ~ what a little cutie! When I lived in Switzerland, I used to LOVE the salamanders. From time to time, Alain and I will speak of them and how much we miss them on our walks.
ReplyDeleteThe reason he did not scurry away is because he was too cold. It can actually cause them to die when they are exposed to the cold and not hidden and protected. He should have been burrowed away. I hope he survives.
ReplyDeleteRose, no worries...we were not having freezing temperatures. This is why we call it 'salamander weather;' it's cold and wet, and there are tons of salamanders out and about. The little guy who 'posed for the picture' crawled away right afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to winter as well :)
ReplyDeleteMy son can't stop looking at the salamander. He loves it! I'm sure yours does as well. Thanks for the great photos...amazing as usual. If you don't mind, would you tell me what kind of camera you use?
ReplyDeleteHi Noel, I love your name!! If we ever have a daughter, she will be named Stella Noel. :)
DeleteThese shots were taken with my Sony NEX-7, which I love. Sometimes I can borrow my husband's Canon 5D, which is even more incredible.
Thanks for your visit!
Ahh, thanks! I love the name pairing...it has a great ring to it. :) And thanks for letting me know what camera you use. Mine is TERRIBLE and I need a new one but don't know where to start.
DeleteYay, so special indeed..Feuersalamander...so is your sensitivity to all of nature. Very spacial.
ReplyDeleteOMG, I can post comments again, halleluja...I had to adjust the cookie setting on my browser. Learning something new every day. Yay

ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI just started reading your blog about a month ago. I think it's wonderful. My sister is about to get married and move to another country, and it has given me a great sense of peace to read about someone who has done the same and is living a very happy life. I am inspired by your love of nature and the seasons, and for your passion for living a life of contentment and gratitude. Your photographs are exquisite. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Raquel
