When Will It Feel Like Christmas?
Not a single snow flake so far. Not one.
Ramon complained the other day: "It doesn't feel like Christmas at all." So I took out a little box of decorations and had Frank Sinatra croon Christmas tunes while I lit candles. Still, it's been awkwardly warm (not really warm but warm for December) and we're all starting to wonder: When will it start to feel like Christmas?
The advent wreath I made a few weeks back was shedding needles and looking quite sad. I finally decided to take it apart and transform it into an advent bowl. It looks very pretty and made me think of my mom, who always knew how to make something out of nothing. Once we lived in one room together. We ate meals sitting on pillows on the floor, cooked on a hot plate, and slept in one bed. But it was clean, and warm, and cozy. I guess I learned how to think creatively from her.
So mom, this impromptu advent bowl is dedicated to you.
It does make it feel a little more like Christmas.

I wish you snow! Your photos are beautiful, and I know I keep saying that. Take care and let it snow...let it snow... let it snow.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about it not feeling like Christmas. I live in Texas and we receive nothing but snow flurries about once every decade. Even today, it's nearing a very sticky, humid 80 degrees. When I want it to feel like Christmas, I just crank up the AC before watching a holiday classic like Rudolph or Frosty. Lol!
ReplyDeleteThe good news is at least it's chilly in your beautiful woods and your snow WILL come. It's a guarantee. I can't wait to see pictures of it!
That's a beautiful advent bowl, by the way. It makes me want to create something similar. Bring a little nature indoors. We have plenty of pine cones here, but I don't know where I'd find everything else.

I keep asking myself the same thing. The wind is howling here in Switzerland, it's pouring rain, but not quite cold enough for snow. Yet snow is forcasted for this weekend. I have my fingers crossed...
ReplyDeleteWe all seem to be suffering the same way, Dawn...not cold at all here yet (although snow warnings Friday, yay!) Hoping you get some festive weather soon...& a big hug to Raffi, gorgeous boy! xo
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn i live in Chicago Il and we have not seen any snow . I cant wait till we have some snow :)

It's been odd here too, 60 today! One day, we might regret wishing on winter but I do hope you find some Christmas spirit soon.

ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful what you wrote to your mother! I'm sure is a special person like you...Here in Italy the air of Christmas still does not feel, but I am confident and hope that something magical happens!I hope that the snow may fall down early in your beautiful country.

aaawwww, it made me cry Dawnee...I remember the room and all the amazing writing you did there on your ganpa's old electric typewriter. Already an author and artist then at a tender age you were.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, it rained here last week!! Nothing more depressing than rain in December when you are supposed to be covered in snow.
ReplyDeleteLove your advent bowl, really adorable.
The nature pictures on your other blog are wonderful. I tried to comment, but I'm not registered anywhere. You are very talented, great job!

I just read other comments and it is amazing how many countries are represented here, all reading your blog. I think that's so neat. Hi, everyone! (LOL) It is like the whole world is talking and sharing, so sweet.

Dear Dawn,
ReplyDeleteThe images are all so beautiful, especially mother and son. We've had several dustings here. It's so cold that it hasn't melted so everything is crunchy. The holiday music really gets me in the spirit as well- especially those crooners! Love them!
