Happy, Too

"In the happiest of our childhood memories, our parents were happy, too." -Robert Brault

Isn't it good, when you look back on the past few days, and realize they were happy ones? Isn't it good, when you look at your husband, and feel a rush of love, butterflies in your stomach, after all these years? And isn't it wonderful, when you open your child's bedroom door to sneak a photo of them napping, and find them laying there, awake, quiet, just thinking and being?

Other good things, recently:

The first ripe blackberries, shiny and plump on wild canes.

The first bright goldenrod, sunny splashes against the deep green of august woods.

Homemade peach crumble.

Summer storms.

A tiny tower of doughnuts topped with sprinkles and candles to greet my husband on the morning of his 35th birthday.

Rafael drawing and playing on his own for hours.

A date night with my husband...sitting in the train side by side on our way to the city, buying popcorn and candy at the theater, holding hands in the dark.

Early morning walks with my two dogs in the dewy forest.

Bouquets of garden flowers and herbs in old jelly jars.

The first autumn-themed magazines, filled with pumpkins, brown leather boots, and bright leaves.

Rafael sleeping in his room deeply and comfortably, with the dogs crowding him in his little bed. They will have cozy winter nights together.

I hope you are all having happy days. I read your comments and they make my heart smile. Thank you.

I thought you might be coming to US this summer? Did plans change?

    1. Hi Joann!

Yes, plans changed. My flight alone with Rafael to Frankfurt made me realize that I did not want to take an 11 hour flight with him at this age.

  5. Hi Dawn!
I have told you many times that you write so well,I wish I had your gift, because a gift it is from God.
The possibility to make other people happy and peaceful just reading your words is but a God's gift!
Your little boy looks just like his dad, from what I can see from the pictures.
Your phothos of simple things around the house, objects that we all have around us, are so full of poetry and meanings.
I love the way you express yourself.
I have come to appreciate simple things after a very difficult moment in my health and I rejoice when I read your blog.
You are young but you are so deeply right in the appreciation of the simple things in your life, which are the most important things and those which gives us the purest of joy!
    Lots of love!

  8. I can't tell you how happy I am to find your more frequent posts, Dawn! I hope it means your heart is in a happier place. I do so love your photos and I've had this thought for some time now. Would you consider writing a little book(s) about Raffi's adventures...on the farm, your walks, his day, etc., and use your photographs to illustrate? Even a calendar might be an easier project. I promise you I would buy it (or them) in a heart-beat. I realize that 'free' time for pursuing this is probably limited, but I hope that you might think about it. Your work is so beautiful and unique, and I, for one, would love to have a copy close at hand to enjoy whenever I wanted!
