Birthday Card Illustration

A card for my little brother's 11th birthday, inspired by this party invitation.

It can be a great learning experience to mimic another artist's work.
When I haven't painted in a while, I like to dip my toe back in the water by copying a piece I like, as a sort of exercise.

The sun is shining so brightly here, and my belly is so round and full, like a ripe melon.
81 days til we reach my due date.

xoxo country girl

  2. I love your card Dawn. I agree, I learned so much from trying to copy other artists work. In art school I had to replicate a Matisse a close to the original as I could. I had to think about what colour he might have put down first as a wash and then what were his next layers...it was such a good exercise.
Glad to see that you are painting. xox

  6. The handpainted card for your brother is so thoughtful; such a cute and fuzzy bear you captured perfectly. Your brother is very lucky to have a talented sister.
81 days and counting, how exciting that soon you will hold Raffi in your arms. xoxo
