Bright Beautiful Things

The day started out so beautifully. Sunshine poured into our home and I snapped photos of the daisies and daffodils and played with Raffi in his colorful little world. He is discovering his feet these past few days as you can see in the last picture.

All of a sudden, Rafael started crying, screaming, and then throwing up. I rushed him to the doctor and it seems he had a reaction to the strawberry-applesauce he had in the morning. He was tired and weepy the rest of the day, clinging to me, but is sleeping soundly now.

It's amazing how a day with a baby can hold a little of everything: play, laughter, fear, exhaustion.

I hope he will sleep deep and wake up tomorrow refreshed and healthy, ready for a new day of discovery.

xoxo

  3. What a day you had Dawn! Who knew that strawberry-applesauce could cause that reaction in your little guy? You poor mama. Your poor little fella. I'm hoping that tomorrow is just sunshine and laughter.

  4. I remember our pediatrician recommending delaying the introduction of strawberries until the girls were over a year old due to the risk of allergic reactions. I think that recommendation varies by country, but it sounds like your wee fella might be one who has issues with it. Hope he's feeling better (and that you can relax again).

  6. Poor little guy, I hope he is feeling better now, he looks so adorable looking at his feet...my daughter use to suck on her toes when she was around this age. I love your couch by the way.

  7. How scary! Glad he is okay now! There's a really great book called Super Baby Food that lists out every food and talks about the best time to introduce each one based on allergic tendencies. I'd stay away from any berry until after one year now that you know he reacted.

  8. Where did you find the activity gym? So glad he's okay and the reaction was mild (compared to what a food reaction can turn into!).

  10. Gorgeous photos! Beautiful boy.

I highly recommend the book Deep Nutrition by Dr. Catherine Shanahan to gain an understanding of allergic reactions; what's really at the root of food intolerance.

These types of reactions have tripled in the last ten years, especially in children. Dr. Shanahan illustrates very clearly why it's no coincidence. A treasure of a book for new mothers concerned with their baby's future health.

  11. Wow, that would have been scary. We have seafood allergies in our family, so I know how horrible they can be. Love the baby gym and the mushroom. Adorable! All the flowers look so wonderful too. I love the flowers in the basket. I have given many planted bulbs in containers to family/friends who can't get outside that often and they are always a hit. Everyone loves to watch little green shoots emerge that become beautiful flowers.:)

    Glad everything is OK now,
    Elise

  13. Thanks Blaire!
The mushroom is handmade through fair trade, created by a designer called Anne-Claire Petit who makes so many wonderful things!
I bought mine through the German online store Nostalgie Im Kinderzimmer.
