My July Kitchen

I'm caring for my in-law's garden while they are on vacation, and it's been fun harvesting their berries, chard, tomatoes, and cucumbers. It's all the rewards without any of the hard work. Like going to the freshest market ever.

I would like to have my own vegetable garden some day. With chickens to pick around in it.

I was so happy to see the first pumpkins of the season at the market! My own potted pumpkin plant which climbs along our fence has only just begun to carry fruit. It was pure joy slicing open that first golden pumpkin, revealing the clusters of seeds and the dewey, lovely scent. A sweet precursor to my favorite season, autumn...

  1. There is nothing like fresh vegetables from the garden! Rafael couldn't have had a better lunch!

We have been harvesting some of our garden's growth. The weather has been so hot and dry that growing conditions have been less than ideal.

    Enjoy these days!

  2. I would also love to have a vegetable garden and chickens some day as well...Rafael sure is a lucky boy to get a mama who makes his own fresh food, wish I could go back in time, and do that with my kids food, so much healthier.

And I so wish to someday own a garden with many delicious things growing in it.

  5. What a good mother you are Dawn. Raffi is a lucky little lad having a mom who makes him healthy fresh food. Gardens bounty is wonderful. I love mine and wish it were bigger. Someday you will have the garden you desire but having inlaws with one is not bad. xoxo
