Temperatures have dropped and everything is wet with thick mist. The weather reports are predicting snow this weekend. It's officially time for bundling up in layers and throwing on waterproof boots.
This morning we invited friends over for a pancake breakfast. Afterwards we all headed into the woods for some fresh air. The sound of swishing and crunching leaves under our feet was so loud that we could hardly hear each other talk. Much of the golden and red leaves have fallen and formed a thick carpet on the path...so the countdown is on for that day that comes every year, when the wind blows fierce and sends all the last leaves swirling into winter.
I love this winding down and bundling up. Thinking of Christmas. Feeling that chill in the air. This is the time of year when nature grows quiet, while streets, stores, and homes begin to decorate and celebrate. Such a familiar and charming combination.

That first shot is priceless!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, especially the first one! Our mountains are not yet into the autumn season. There are hardly any yellow leaves, no swishing here :(

ReplyDeleteI agree with Sue, just beautiful! We got our first thin layer of snow last night up here in Northern Europe but it will disappear early next week, at least from where I live.

I grew up in California and can't imagine living without the seasons again. Thanks for your lovely comment, I'm so happy you stopped by. :)

ReplyDeleteThe first photo is amazing! It's cold here now, too, and I woke up to the sound of rain. Cozy weekend coming up!
ReplyDeleteI grew up and still live in CA. I live in northern ca...about 2 hours south of the oregon border. We get all the seasons here, but our summer and winter are the longest. Your pictures are so beautiful and then take my breath away. I can feel myself in your pictures and can almost smell the forest...one of my favorite places to be. Looking forward to see your pics when winter comes. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you all so much for all of this wonderful feedback...I appreciate you taking the time to leave it so much! It makes sharing the beauty here that much more lovely.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are oh so stunning Dawn. Boston and Kiki are ever so adorable. I love those 2 dogs!
