the old clock that doesn't work, but looks so pretty with roses beside it
how small my hand is in my husband's
cuddling with kiki in the morning
trees, in every season
a perfect, ripe, fragrant, rosy mango
a little cup with stars on it
fresh bedding
a full pantry
long family naps on sundays
deep breaths
white pumpkins and a wooden chicken on the windowsil
strong legs and obliging feet which carry me
eyes that see
deer and rabbit tracks in the snow
brown glass bottles of organic milk wrapped in newspaper waiting at my door every thursday
a pocket full of oats to throw for birds on walks
stones and clouds shaped like hearts
kneading bread
autumn in new england
a parcel in the mail with my name on it
louis armstrong
warm soapy water
the humble scent of geraniums
my husband telling me "good job" and "i'm proud of you"

"Eyes that see." Yes. I love this, and the scent of geraniums and a pocket full of oats and . . . oh, your list is lovely, my friend. I know, too, what you mean about being grateful for this community. It is a true blessing. xoxo Gigi

ReplyDeleteHi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely post, so sweet & true. I agree with so many of them!! I also wanted to tell you from one of your previous notes that, during the campaign, my hubby was so worried that I would run away with President Obama:). Of course, I never would :), but he is quite amazing!
I hope to write a simple things list as well. It's funny, I'm on vacation, but couldn't stay away from the blogworld!!
Have a good day:).
xoxo,
Blair

Oh this list just made me smile...all of it. Every single item. And the photo of the clock and the flowers?!? Bliss. I have a new clock I bought last week but have yet to put a battery in it, so it's on the wall making a lovely vignette in the corner where it sits, stuck at the same time...perhaps this is why I haven't yet added the battery? I don't need time to move, I like it just where it is!! xo
ReplyDeleteTrees, we both said trees. Bottles of milk make me go back to my childhood when milk delivered to the door was common. The milkman would often come into the kitchen on a cold winter day for a cup of coffee and conversation. Thanks for prompting that lovely memory. Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful list. I enjoy many of the same things!
ReplyDeleteStrong legs and obliging feet which carry me and eyes that see...how very true. I love this list.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness...what a wonderful list! Throwing oats to the birds on your walk! :)
ReplyDeleteFresh bedding, long family naps on Sundays, a perfectly ripe mango...those are all such GOOD simple things. Brown glass bottles of organic milk wrapped in newspaper waiting...where do you live???? That sounds absolutely blissful! :)
ReplyDeletePS: I also wanted to tell you that I think your book-in-progress is a wonderful idea. The cover is terrific! I bet you could make some extra $ doing commissioned work of beloved pets - all in the same fashion as the Kiki book cover. There's also a market for paitings of dogs so you could do your own thing if you didn't want to take on commissioned work. Just a thought. I think you're a talented illustrator/painter. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your list....especially "eyes that see"....wow, we take that for granted and we shouldn't.....
ReplyDeletebeautiful list and the photo of the old clock..very nice
ReplyDeletewonderful list...white pumpkins and a wooden chicken ...love it! :)
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend...all of it...perfect.....
ReplyDeleteyou are a treasure in my life....
how lucky we all are to have each other...
sending love across the ocean.....
